Just before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He summed up the purpose of the church by giving His disciples a commission. “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18–20)
The last command of Christ is our highest priority and we endeavor to make every facet of our church activity relate to the purpose Christ gave His church. At Eastland Baptist Church, we have emphasized this in our three-point mission statement:
Our purpose is to communicate God’s love to our community, to connect people to Christ through teaching and worship, and to care for each other through the church.
Connecting. Caring. Communicating. These three words describe both our purpose statement and the major needs of the human heart.
- Connecting people to Christ. All of us want to be connected to something that really matters in life; our purpose is to help people get connected to Christ through practical Bible teaching and preaching.
- Caring for people through the church. People have genuine needs and hurts; it is our desire to help them through the issues of life by caring for them in tangible ways.
- Communicating God’s love to the community. We recognize that the greatest thing we can offer others is to help them discover Christ by communicating God’s love and forgiveness to them.
This is the heartbeat of our church! We would love the opportunity for you to join us!
